11 people collapse at bakery after apparently inhaling carbon monoxide

救急搬送：大阪のパン店、１２人病院へ　一酸化炭素中毒か

OSAKA -- Eleven people collapsed at a bakery here after apparently inhaling carbon monoxide on Wednesday morning, police said.

At around 7:50 a.m., rescue workers received an emergency call from an employee of Bakery Factory Gogh in Higashisumiyoshi-ku, Osaka, reporting that people had collapsed in the store.

Eleven people -- nine women and two men -- were rushed to hospitals by ambulances. Two women, aged 18 and 28, were in a serious condition. Another 34-year-old woman visited a clinic to receive a check-up.

The owner of the shop has told investigators that the ventilating fan was not working at the time, leading them to suspect that the victims suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.

The bakery is located in a shopping district about 600 meters east of Nishi-Tanabe Station on the Midosuji Subway Line.

３０日午前７時５０分ごろ、大阪市東住吉区山坂３のパン製造販売店「ベーカリーファクトリーゴッホ」＝鹿島憲一郎社長（４７）＝から「パンを焼いていた従業員が倒れた」と１１９番通報があった。救急隊員が駆け付けると店内で従業員らが倒れており、男女１１人を救急搬送。別に３４歳の女性客１人が受診した。府警東住吉署によると、このうち２８歳と１８歳の女性２人が重症。同署は換気不足による一酸化炭素中毒が原因とみて、業務上過失傷害の疑いで調べている。

調べでは、搬送されたのは女性９人と男性２人。病院に行った１２人中、客は女性客とその娘（４）の２人で、残り１０人はいずれも従業員だった。

同店は午前７時に開店。当時、店内奥の調理場の石窯（高さ２．２メートル、幅２．９メートル、奥行き２．５メートル）などを使い、パンを焼いていた。陳列作業をしていた女性従業員（１９）が「気分が悪い」と言って倒れ、その後近くにいた従業員が次々に倒れたという。同店では普段、午前４時半ごろからガスで石窯を温める作業を始め、同６時ごろからパンを焼き始めるという。

大阪市消防局によると、調理場内の換気扇は回っていなかった。鹿島社長も「普段回している換気扇が動いていなかった」と話しているという。

現場は地下鉄御堂筋線西田辺駅の東約６００メートルの住宅街で、同店は４階建てマンションの１階。
