OSAKA -- A man under arrest over an arson attack on a video-viewing establishment here that left 15 people dead used a cigarette lighter he was carrying to start the fire in a fit of rage, leading investigators to believe that his actions were not premeditated, police said.

Local police believe that the suspect, 46-year-old Kazuhiro Ogawa, who apparently had suicidal tendencies, committed the crime in a fit of anger after entering a private room.

Investigators raided Ogawa's apartment in Higashi Osaka on Sunday. No suicide note was found and only a small amount of money was left in the room.

Ogawa entered the video-viewing facility in Naniwa-ku at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday and used a lighter he was regularly carrying to smoke a cigarette in a private room, according to local police.

After viewing a video he rented from the establishment, he used the lighter to set fire to a bag belonging to a 46-year-old stall keeper, who visited the facility with him, investigators allege.

火をつけたキャリーバッグは、一緒に入店した露天商の男性（４６）のもので、放火用に持ち込んだものではないと判明。大阪府警浪速署捜査本部は、日ごろの悩みや自殺願望が入室後に一気に噴き出して放火に及んだことが、遺留品からも裏付けられたとみている。

　調べなどによると、小川容疑者は１日午前１時半ごろ入店。個室内で、普段から携帯していたライターを使ってたばこを吸い、借りたＤＶＤを１本観賞。その後、ライターで放火に及んだとみられる。

　小川容疑者は事件の数日前から、東大阪市内の自宅にも帰らず、路上で知り合った露天商と大阪・ミナミ周辺を放浪。ネットカフェなどで、寝泊まりする生活を送っていた。事件当日は、ほとんど金を持っておらず、同店には露天商に連れられ、初めて行っていた。

　露天商は似顔絵や占いを商売とし、小川容疑者がそのバッグを個室内に持ち込んでいた。小川容疑者は、まず個室の備品のティッシュペーパーに火をつけ、それを露天商の絵画用の道具や新聞などが入っていたバッグに放り込んで燃やした。バッグには、小川容疑者の衣類も入れていた。捜査本部は、これまで小川容疑者の供述により、衝動的犯行とみていたが、物証からもその見方を強めている。

　一方、捜査本部は５日、小川容疑者の東大阪市加納７の自宅マンションを家宅捜索した。遺書はなく、室内に現金はほとんどなかったという。
