Japan Injects Funds To Stabilize Market
日本政府マーケットの安定を目指し資金投入

As Wall Street reeled following yesterday's tumultuous afternoon on the trading floor, the Bank of Japan poured $21.6 billion into the market overnight to increase liquidity and quell fears of debt default in Europe. It is the bank's largest offer since the height of the economic collapse in December 2008 and the first significant overnight offer since concerns over Dubai's debt in December 2009. As the first central bank to make a move to increase liquidity, Japan "reflects global demand for dollar liquidity as investors move out of the euro." In the American markets, the Wall Street Journal notes that the Securities and Exchange Commission is still trying to figure out what caused a brief but harrowing 1,000-point plunge on Wall Street yesterday, but officials have suggested that signs point to a trading error. The WSJ says that a temporary halt in trading by a number of high-frequency firms could have contributed to the scare. Ezra Klein at the Washington Post observes that Thursday's third straight day of market decline reflects worldwide wariness in response to Greece's debt crisis and fears that the nation's instability could spread across Europe.
